Guess Summer is Back

Wow, nearly October and the weather is back to nearly 100 here in Brentwood.  Looks like they may leave the pool open for us for an extra two weeks.  After that, it will just be cold water in the pool if we continue to go to our water aerobics class.  That's northern California for you.  We may get yet another hot spell around Halloween.

It's definitely a time of change here, though.  The Jewish High Holidays are past.  I really enjoyed services at B'nai Torah.  Did I mention that Rabbi Ira Book knew my parents when they were living in Hayward?  He was the rabbi in San Leandro where they went to services.  What a small world.  Friday is Simchat Torah services.  It does feel good to be attending services again.

The Brentwood schools are finished with their first session and the kids are off for two weeks.  We're on a modified year-round school schedule, which is good for some families and not so good if you have a two-working-parent family or a single-parent family.  Lots of grandparents here at Summerset have extended time with their grandchildren during these mini-vacation periods and they enjoy that.  Since my grandchildren are in another part of the Bay Area, and they aren't on the year round school program, I don't have that pleasure. But I spend as many weekends as possible visiting them.

This Saturday Alex has a Soccer game - and it's around noon.  That's a good thing since it's an hour drive and I don't have to be up at 6 AM to get there in time.  Now that I'm retired those 8:00 games are a bit harder to make.  In spite of all I heard all those years ago about people at "my age" waking up at the crack of dawn, it has NOT happened to me.  I'm making up for all those years I traveled 90 minutes to work and had to get up at 5:00 be there at 8:00. The games are fun to watch.  Alex plays goalie the first half (and is very good!) then goes onto the field the 2nd half.  Nate decided not to do soccer this fall.  He's preparing for another robot tournament.  Now that Melissa is 7 she's getting into her own interests.  I'll have to talk to her about her choir this weekend.  Maybe Grandma Ann's love of music has been passed on through me to both of my granddaughters.

Summer is Gone - It's Soccer Season!

The weather is changing.  You can smell it in the air.  The kids are all back in school and tomorrow...it's back to soccer games at 9:00 AM in Fremont.  I love the games, it's the 7:00 wake up call on Saturday to allow time for the hour drive.  It's knowing that in a couple of months it will be really cold at those games.  But if you're a grandparent like me, it's worth it all to spend time with your family.  So Alex, kick butt tomorrow.  Can't wait to see the soccer match.

Fall also means that Water Aerobics will end soon.  I'm really sad about that because I had a summer cold and missed quite a few days of class.  Now we have less than a month left before our pool closes.  Then I'll have to go back to the local gym and the indoor pool.

Fall also means the leaves start to fall and need to be raked.  Well most of us have to rake.  Our house is on a corner where the wind comes through and takes our leaves to other homes.  I guess my husband knew what he was doing when we looked at the corner house.  Although it probably makes up for it when he mows the hill that goes down to the street.

This just in:  Amazon is having a big blowout sale.  The sale ends on September 26th at midnight.

And so much for that cooler weather.  I guess we can't decide if it's still summer or if fall is here.

Keep in touch!
